Used Oil Collection Software, Compared

Not many route software companies build for oil collection. Of the 17 vendors we looked at in November 2026, only a few name it at all, and they don't mean the same thing by it. RouteMule is built around used motor oil and coolant. Route Simplified is built around used cooking oil and grease. Advantage Route comes from delivery trades like propane and has a liquid recycling page.

Used cooking oil is a different business

If you collect fryer oil and sell it on, credits and oil sales matter, and that's what Route Simplified put front and center. If you collect motor oil, coolant, filters and rags from shops, you care more about what's in each drum and who signed for it.

What a used oil route needs

Each stop has more than one material, and each one gets counted on its own. Federal rules ask transporters to record who the oil came from, how much, when and a dated signature, then keep it for three years. Here's what EPA requires on every pickup. Then the load has to get from the truck to a base and from the base to headquarters, and that's where gallons go missing.

What to ask any vendor

  • Can it follow one drum from a customer to your headquarters?
  • Can it keep oil and coolant apart on the same truck?
  • Can it show what's on board each truck right now?
  • Can you find a signed record from two years ago in under a minute?
  • Does it record what the truck reported and what was received?
  • Can a driver flag a contaminated stop so the load can be traced?

Those are the questions we built RouteMule around, so we're happy to answer them on a demo. Ask the others the same ones.
